Rico
Rodriguez
Trombonist
Rico Rodriguez (17 October 1934 – 4 September 2015) was a celebrated trombonist who was born in Cuba but whose remarkable musical journey began at Alpha Boys School. After emigrating to England from Jamaica in the 1960s, Rico became an influential figure in the development of British ska and 2 Tone music. He was awarded an MBE for services to music in 2007.

Some consider his 1977 album Man From Wareika to be his best work and Rodriguez himself has been quoted as saying that it was the first album on which he was able to perform to the best of his ability.
Rico Rodriguez reinvented himself as a British ska specialist after leaving Jamaica and this song put him and the Specials on the map.
