Trumpeter Johnny "Dizzy" Moore was born October 5, 1938. He attended Alpha Boys School in the 1940s and 50s. He joined the military after Alpha and later became a key member of the Studio One house band.

He was best known for his work with the legendary ska band, The Skatalites.  Moore’s solos, like on “Ska La Parisienne”, were so intricate they allegedly made people dizzy. And the name stuck...

When the Skatalites broke up and ska became rocksteady, Dizzy, along with Roland Alphanso and Jackie Mittoo, stayed with Studio One and became part of the Soul Vendors while Tommy McCook and Lloyd Knibb left to work with Duke Reid as The Supersonics.

Rocksteady evolved into reggae music and Dizzy continued to work as a session musician including a number of recordings for the Soul Syndicate band.

Dizzy’s last feature recording project was as a founding member of the Jamaica All Stars along with fellow Alpharian Sparrow Martin, Justin Hinds and Skully Sims.
