Alpha past students Cedric Brooks and David Madden are featured on this rare find in the music economy.
Said to be one of the rarest albums in the Studio One catalog, the Money Maker various artists vinyl LP was first released in 1970 and named after the signature lead track by Alpha past students’ David Madden on trumpet and saxophonist Cedric ‘Im’ Brooks. The distinct soul/jazz sound includes numerous instrumentals by Brooks and Madden and offers the kinds of grooves and riddims that one would expect from musicians who had known each other most of their lives. It’s an upbeat, silly, fun and sensitive release. Not to be forgotten is that the album also includes iconic musicians like keyboardist Jackie Mttoo, legendary guitarist Ernest Ranglin and even ‘The Boss’, Sir Coxsone himself on “Great Gu Gu Mu Ga”. Overall, fans of classic reggae can expect a compilation that is consistent in mood and an overall brilliant body of work reflecting the brilliant musicians playing on it.
