The back cover of Zap Pow (1978) shows the band at full strength including founding members singer/bassist Michael Williams aka Mikey Zappow, guitarist Dwight Pinkney and Alpha past students trumpeter David Madden and saxophonist Glen DaCosta. Each band member composed songs and they were supported by an all star cast from Robbie Lyn to Skully to Stephen Stewart.

The collective musicianship had an audible impact on the richness of Zap Pow’s sound which could transition from a blues laden groove to a disco-inspired crescendo and back to Jamaican one drop with ease. Beres Hammond joined the band in 1975 and lent his voice to some of Zap Pow’s most iconic recordings like “Last War” (which went on to become the basis of Collie Buddz’ ‘Come Around’ 2007 hit single).
